An energy saving week was launched last Sunday aimed at promoting environmental awareness, namely by encouraging the public to use energy saving light bulbs.     

    "It has cost 10 more Yuan for citizens to buy these types of bulbs at supermarkets in the past. Now with the financial support coming from the government, families can save a lot by only spending 3.9 Yuan per bulb," said a director from the Guangdong Economic and Trade Commission.     

    Energy-efficient light bulbs are generally double or even triple the price of the average incandescent bulb, which is one of the main obstacles to their wider application. Financial subsidies from the government would help smooth the way and make Guangdong a more energy-efficient province.     

    Three million energy saving bulbs will be delivered to Guangdong in succession. Office buildings, hospitals and schools could get the bulbs at a 30% discount, with average families receiving a 50% discount. 　

    An energy saving light bulb uses up to 60% less electricity than the common bulb while lasting 8 times as long.
